There's too many legal issues that end up on televised court involving Craigslist. Thus, it's not recommended. Just about any other way of getting as many boxes for free is always great before bothering to buy any. Just need to use common sense along with the reliability of the place(s) to get them first. Especially when getting anything for free.

also, dont give in to the expensive "shipping supplies" that places offer. You can always use old blankets, towels, sheets, etc to help cover/pad furniture..or some moving companies offer it for free or at discounted rates

I've moved every year in the past 6 years :( sucks lol but I agree with your post. A few of my suggestions: craigslist is a great place for boxes, but also a lot of grocery stores are glad to get rid of boxes for free since they just throw them out (or recycle) them anyways!

Uhaul is usually cheaper if you're moving locally and Budget trucks are usually cheaper for longer distances. Best way to see is to add the mileage from the truck rental place to your house, then from your house to your new house, and your new house to wherever youre turning the truck back in...then put the mileage in the cost calculator on their site. Daily rates really vary so if you have some flexibility, change the pickup dates to see what is cheaper (also, keeping it for a day is cheaper than overnight, so if possible, move all in a day). Also remember you have to refill the fuel tank when finished, so check out the MPG that each truck gets...some trucks require diesel fuel while others take unleaded...therefore fuel will cost more if its diesel. You could also maybe plan ahead of time to find the cheapest gas station on the way to dropping it off. I always check "retailmenot" for coupon codes on the truck rentals too, and if you have ANY issue with the trucks, call customer service they are pretty good about helping you out. For example, I reserved a small Budget truck for my heavy furniture and when I got there all they had were the big ones..which wasnt a big deal but then I realized it got worst gas mileage AND I would have to put diesel in it when finished...and I was moving a long distance. I called Budget after to see if there was anything that could be done and they reimbursed the difference. Wow, sad how obvious it is that I move a lot haha
