Help For Haiti Drive - Everyone Can Do Something!

01/15/10

Permalink 02:16:19 pm, Categories: Swag Stuff

Welcome!!! If you are new here, you might want to sign up for my RSS Feed HERE or subscribe to emails to the right!

I don't know about you but I haven't been able to stop thinking about all the poor people in Haiti right now. The complete devastation that as occured in Haiti is unbelieveable. In a matter of minutes people lost everything. It will take years, probably decades, for them to recover from the earthquake, if ever!

Hubby and I have been talking about what we could do to help and a bunch of bloggers have been doing the same thing. From now until Jan. 21, 2010 my family will be donating $.25 for each person that posts a comment and $2 for each blog that links to this post and posts a link to theirs. Let's keep this going and get as many people involved as possible!

Money Saving Mom is hosting this wonderful event and there are 45 other bloggers participating and donating for comments and links. Take a few minutes today and visit them and help Haiti at the same time. Click HERE to go!

What you can do....
We plan to send our donation to the American Red Cross so if you would like to help but don't feel like you can give a lot right now, use the Paypal button at the bottom right and donate whatever you can afford. Everything that is donated, along with our donation, will be sent from the SwagGrabber Family :)

If you would like to personally donate there are several organziations available...
Compassion
Numana
American Red Cross

You can also text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti, the $10 will be charged to your phone bill.

Southern Savers has put together a pretty great list of local organizations (in the south) that are accepting donation, supplies, and cell phones. Click HERE to see!

If you are a blogger and are participating today, leave a linky!

We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed--I can't imagine the losses of the Haitian people.

http://www.just1dollar4haiti.org/ is the website specifically for earthquake relief for the nonprofit Haiti Cheri Havest Life Ministries (www.haiticheri.org). They are an mission organization that partners with Haitian people to improve their quality of life (education, food, medical, etc). Any money donated now goes to earthquake relief. You can check out the website for a link to up-to-date info and correspondence from Haitian friends about the earthquake and effects, and you can make tax-deductible contributions securely online. You are right that every little bit helps- most Haitian people live on less per day than we can scrape out of the ashtray for a Coke in the drive-thru. Having done mission work in Haiti, I have seen first-hand the desolation of everyday life forthe Haitian people. This epic disaster is truly heartbreaking, and the long-term consequences are beyond what I can even fathom. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your generosity.

Our family is planning to give. Our church ususally takes up an offering for disasters like this, so we plan to give through our church. They give the money to a missionary or organization they trust to help distribute the money. If our church doesn't take up an offering, we plan to donate the money through Compassion Int. Thank you for your generous heart.

Thank you for doing this!! We have financially given and will persevere to pray for the people of Haiti.

Specifically, pray for Jean and Joy Thomas as they minister to the people fleeing PAP to the countryside...

What you are doing is amazing; you are very generous. Thank you for allowing me to participate. I donated $100 to Doctors without Borders, which the generous people at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php match, and throw in some gaming downloads too with the donation. I am so inspired by you and the other bloggers that are participating in Help for Haiti campaign, that I want to start my own donation for links post. It will take a couple of days for me to get the post up; and I can only afford to do $200 for the Salvation Army. However, this is what I have the resources to do. Also, I plan on auctioning off somethings at the Ebay charity auction for Haiti; and gazelle.com will buy old electronic gadgets, give %100 of the proceeds to help Haiti and then they will add 10%. Also, I am going to try to purchase things at merchants that are giving %100 of proceeds of their sales to Haiti, or attend benefits or volunteer depending on who needs the most help.
If anyone wants to find out more about places that match their donations, how to donate mileage and old gadgets, where to volunteer, and where benefits are being held at my new post will give the details; and it will be up soon. My last post, that is up now, contains some of this information.
But most importantly, I will pray for Jean and Joy Thomas and everyone else in Haiti.
Thanks again
